The Bottom Line
Freeze your credit at the 3 credit bureaus: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion for FREE to protect your credit identity!
My favorite thing since launching Bratto Biz has been collaborating with my followers, who connect with me on Minnect or social media to give their take on what I publish and answer questions they have. This article was inspired by a Bratto Biz follower who shed some light on how to secure your credit identity for FREE by freezing your credit report. Their identity was stolen and the thief applied for tons of credit cards and loans, threatening their finances and causing a big headache, spending days to fix the problem. When this happens to you, you have to make these three accounts anyways and freeze your credit, so you might as well do it now and save yourself the future hassle.
Freezing your credit report helps protect you from identity theft and opening fraudulent accounts. It doesn’t affect your credit score, lasts until you lift the freeze, and is FREE. You will need to make sure you lift the freeze or “thaw” your credit report when you go to apply for a new loan, credit card, or rent an apartment.
This follower mentioned a few months ago this happened to them and recommended I freeze my credit. I said “I will definitely do that ASAP”… and never did 🤡. More recently, the same issue happened to their fiancee right around the time of the national social security information breach. After this, I immediately prioritized getting around to freezing my credit, my families, and hopefully all my followers!
To streamline the process for readers, I’ve linked the FREE account creation links and snapshots of where to find the “Freeze” function. The 3 Bureaus try to make you pay for their premium packages, but you do not need to pay for any of them to freeze your credit!
